Volunteering

We love our volunteers and can't do this without them!

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Volunteer Presale on Friday from 4-6 pm. Volunteers not selling still get access to the presale!

  • You’ll get your ticket to that sale during your volunteer shift. If your shift is after the presale, please see a sale leader prior to the presale during Drop Off.
  • Volunteer shifts open three weeks before the sale date. At that time, visit the “Volunteer” section of our sale system to select a volunteer shift. (NOTE: To register for a volunteer shift you must have or create an account in the sale system.)
  • Volunteers fulfilling the terms of their shift will keep 80% of their sales. Non-volunteers retain 65%.
Remember:
  • You are not required to volunteer (but the presale and extra 15% sure do make it appealing!)
  • Volunteer shifts open at announced date/time and slots fill FAST! If a shift reads “0” it means there are no slots open so please choose a different shift.
  • Sign up for one slot only (no holding multiple slots for you or friends!)
  • Please be on time! We train all volunteers for jobs at the beginning of shifts and you need to be there to receive that training! Aim to arrive a few minutes early in order to allow for traffic or other issues. Plan to remain working the entire shift.
  • Children under 12 cannot accompany you during your volunteer shift.
  • Children 12 and above are welcome to accompany you during your shift if they are also willing to volunteer (we can provide volunteer hours).
  • Be sure to sign in and out at your volunteer shift to ensure you receive credit.
  • Unless noted in your job description, you may not place or remove your items from the floor or shop DURING your shift, only before or after.
  • Saturday morning volunteers — any items you set aside for purchase must be paid for by 10:00 am and won’t qualify for 50% sale.
  • If you have volunteered and don’t see the correct percentage reflected in your sales report Saturday — don’t panic! We have to manually change them all and probably won’t complete this until Sunday after the sale. If it still isn’t right Monday feel free to email us.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

We’ve listed job descriptions here to give you an idea of what kinds of help we need during each shift, but your particular job may vary. You’ll see there are both pros and cons to many shifts, so be sure to weigh it all wisely! Feel free to have a spouse do your volunteer shift as some require manual labor while others only require sitting.
Wednesday Night Setup   (6-8 pm)
This is a shorter 2-hour shift but very physical. Volunteers will be setting up racks and putting out signage. You won't be able to drop off any items at this time. Please wear clothes that can get dirty and don't sign up for this shift if you aren't able to easily do this type of work. **This is a great shift to sign up a husband!**

Thursday Morning Setup   (9 am-12 pm)
The second part of setup, this shift will be moving around racks and tables, putting out signage and finishing overall sale setup. Near the end of this shift, you will be allowed to display your items as it helps determine if things are organized correctly.

Thursday Night Drop Off   (5-8 pm)
This is the first Drop Off shift. Volunteers will help organize racks and tables as consignors bring in items. Volunteers will be allowed to bring in their items between 7:30-8:00 pm IF they can properly display all items in this 30-minute time period. If working this shift and you have a large number of items, please plan to drop off Friday morning as we must close the building at 8 pm.

Friday Morning Drop Off   (9 am-12 pm)
Volunteers during this shift will be working to organize the items on sale. There won't be time to put out your own items before or during this shift, so please plan to put out your items on Thursday night or after your Friday shift.

Friday Afternoon Drop Off   (12-3 pm)
Volunteers will continue to organize items and prep the entire space for the sale. There won't be time to put out your own items during or after this shift, so please plan to put out your items BEFORE YOUR SHIFT AND ALLOW YOURSELF AMPLE TIME. You must be completely finished putting your items away at the start of your shift as doors close to volunteers at 3 pm.

Friday Volunteer Presale   (3:30-6:30 pm)

Volunteers will help check out shoppers, monitor hold items or tidy sales areas during the volunteer presale. Please note that no volunteers will be admitted to the building until 3:30 pm. While this shift will have the opportunity to shop from 3:45-4:00 pm by submitting their Volunteer Presale ticket, this is a better shift for volunteers who don't plan on doing major shopping. Do not give your Volunteer Presale ticket to a friend, as you won't be able to shop at 3:45 if you don't have your ticket.

Friday Friends & Family Presale   (6:15-9:00 pm)

Volunteers will help run the presale and then straighten up to get ready for general public sale in the morning. Please don't plan to shop during this shift, as you will need to be working during that time.

Saturday Sale #1   (7-10 am)

Volunteers will cashier, organize racks and help customers during public sale. Please don't plan to shop during this shift, as you will need to be working during that time. You may shop Friday or after your shift is over. Any items you set aside for purchase must be paid for by 10:00 am and won't qualify for 50% off.

Saturday Sale #2   (9:45 am-12:45 pm)
Volunteers will cashier, organize racks and help customers during public sale. While you should not plan to shop during your shift, this shift will have a 15-minute break from 11:45-12:00 to quickly shop the 50% off sale. Any items you set aside for purchase must be paid for by 10:00 am and won't qualify for 50% off.

Saturday Sale #3   (12:30-3:30 pm)

Volunteers will help run the 50% off sale, organize racks, check out consignors picking up items and begin sale breakdown. Jobs change throughout this shift, making it perfect for those who get bored easily and those who like to try different things. You will be allowed to pick up items during this shift if you don't have a large amount, so this is a good shift for those who are donating most of their items.

Saturday Breakdown - EXPRESS   (3:30-5:30 pm)

This is a shorter 2-hour shift but mostly physical. Volunteers will help sort out and bag donated items, break down racks and tables, and return the space to its typical arrangement. There are some things that are less physical but still require moving around (e.g. vacuuming, moving small furniture, etc.) Please plan to PICK UP YOUR UNSOLD ITEMS BEFORE YOUR SHIFT STARTS and be ready to work at start time.
